Am I delivering to the maximum of my capabilities? If not, pivot your system.
Delivering - The act or manner of giving or sending forth.
Maximum - The greatest quantity or amount possible, assignable, or allowable.
Capabilities - Having power and ability; efficient; competent.
Pivot - A change in policy, opinion, or design.
System - A combination of things or parts forming a complex whole.
Known as the capabilities gap, this principle ensures we don't become too routed in our systems without changing aspects that aren't working. This describes the difference between what we are currently delivering in life, versus what we are truly capable of. If we enter into inefficient practices, misallocate resources such as time and effort, or succumb to self-limiting psychological beliefs, we can see this gap expand.
To bridge this gap, we have to constantly reflect on our own capabilities gap, and be willing to adapt and change when we see this gap expanding. When we recognise we’re not operating at the maximum of our capabilities, or that we aren’t in pursuit of our own maximum, we need to reassess our priorities and remove constraints. The systems we adopt can become limiting if we fall too heavily into them and don’t believe we can change them. We can. We have to align efforts to do this, but once we remove damaging aspects of these systems, we create new space for new opportunities, through which we can seek to pursue our full potential. Then our output can match our true capabilities instead of cruising by.
